Members of the Drei Thermen Golf Resort have the luxury of being able to choose, as they have the right to play on four courses. In Bad Bellingen (D) the Kapellenberg and the Quellenhof. In Hombourg (F) the Schlossplatz and the Burgplatz. All four courses are very different in their characteristics and cannot be compared with each other just because of the topography and planting. Only Hombourg is described here – for Bad Bellingen see page 48.
Even the driveway to the Hombourg golf resort bears witness to an impressive past. At the end of the avenue you can see the 200-year-old castle, which has been converted into a clubhouse. In Hombourg, holes have been cleared into the forest in almost 120 hectares of closed forest area.
At the castle square one has the impression that it has existed for a long time. Old design with large, curved greens and a few large bunkers give the character of an old Central European golf course. The first five holes were laid out on the left open terrain. From the 6th hole onwards the course goes into the forest. Straight and precise shots are required here. Holes 12, 16 and 17 are then somewhat more open again.
At the castle course a lot of ground was moved, the terrain became deeper and higher. The whole course is in the forest, which is wonderful in summer thanks to the shade. The result of the fourth place of the resort is quite impressive. A beautifully designed course, which is not comparable with the other three courses. On both courses the 9th and 18th hole end at the castle. Four greens in front of the clubhouse is a rarity, probably unique in Europe. After the game you should enjoy the scenery “castle – forest – 4 greens” on the terrace of the clubhouse.
